How do I care for my earrings?

It's important to be careful with your earrings throughout the day. They can easily get caught on clothing, accessories, and other items you come into contact with. For this reason, it's best to put your earrings on last when getting dressed in the morning, and to take them off first at night. This will help to avoid any unnecessary damage or wear and tear.

Sterling silver is still considered a soft metal, which means that it can be damaged without proper care. Earring posts and hooks can bend or break if they are handled too roughly, so it is important to be gentle with them. Gemstones settings may get damaged and the stones may crack, chip or scratch if your earrings are dropped or handled with too much force.

Avoid contact with perfumes, hairspray, deodorant, soaps, detergents, lotions, hand sanitiser, chlorine and other chemicals that may react with the metals in the earrings.

We recommend removing your earrings when swimming, exercising, sleeping, showering, applying beauty products or going to the beach.

How can I clean my earrings?

Sterling silver is beautiful but it does require some care to keep it looking its best. Over time, your earrings will tarnish due to a natural reaction with chemicals in the atmosphere. This build-up of tarnish can dull the silver and cause it to lose its shine.

If you do notice that your earrings are starting to look dull, a quick polish with a soft jewellery cloth should do the trick. This will gently remove the tarnish and bring back the shiny silver. To keep your sterling silver earrings looking their best, we recommend polishing your earrings frequently.

Many people are surprised to see their polishing cloth turn black when they are cleaning their jewellery. What they may not realise is that this is perfectly normal. The cloth is simply picking up the tarnish that has built up on the surface of the silver. It’s not unusual for some of the tarnish to be transferred to your fingers and hands. There's no need to be alarmed, though. Simply wash your hands with soap and water after you're finished polishing your earrings and the black will come right off.

How should I store my earrings?

Anyone who's ever had a pair of earrings get tangled knows the importance of storing them properly. Not only does it prevent frustration when you're trying to put them on, but it also helps to keep them from getting damaged.

The most effective way to store earrings is individually in a cool, dry place. This will help to avoid tarnishing, discolouration, tangling and scratches. You can use the box you received with your earrings or use an airtight container when you’re not regularly wearing your earrings. This storage will help to avoid exposing your earrings to extreme heat or direct sunlight.

Taking a few minutes to store your earrings correctly will prolong their life and keep them looking beautiful.

How do I care for my gemstones?

Natural gemstones can be cleaned to ensure their longevity but the technique will vary depending on the type of gemstone. Some gemstones are delicate and require special care, while others can be cleaned with nothing more than soap and water. The best way to clean a gemstone is to research the specific care instructions for that stone and follow those recommendations.
