The cloth is simply picking up the tarnish that has built up on the surface of the silver. It’s not unusual for some of the tarnish to be transferred to your fingers and hands. There's no need to be alarmed, though. Simply wash your hands with soap and water after you're finished polishing your earrings and the black will come right off.
