FAQs

General Queries

Do you have a physical store?

No, we are an online store only. We are based in a small town called Mullumbimby in northern NSW and we send all earrings from that location.

Are all your earrings solid sterling silver?

All our earrings are made from solid sterling silver. Sterling silver will stand the test of time. There’s nothing worse than buying a piece of jewellery to find out later on that it’s actually silver plated. We believe there's no point in purchasing earrings like this if you want something that will last. We want you to have your pair of earrings for as long as possible. All you’ll need to do is take care of them and keep them clean.

Are your gemstones authentic?

Yes, all of our gemstones in The Gemstone Treasures Collection are authentic and natural. Gemstones are made within the earth over millennia. We are truly blessed that the earth produces these little beauties that we can then wear in our ears.

We have some earrings that have synthetic stones and this is clearly indicated in the title and in the product description.

How do you measure your earrings?

We measure the width by taking the longest distance from left to right on the earring. We measure the height from the top of the earring (including the hook) to the bottom of the earring. We use a digital scale to measure the weights.

How are your earrings made?

Our collections are made by our artisans and silversmiths using either handcrafted or casted methods. Handcrafted means that earrings are made by hand using simple tools and machinery. Casting means that the earrings are made by pouring molten metal into a mold.

Both methods require immense experience and skill to create the beautiful earrings we have on our website.

What is sterling silver?

Sterling silver is an alloy made from a minimum of 92.5% silver and 7.5% of another metal, usually copper. Pure silver is extremely soft and very difficult to use to make jewellery on its own. It is combined with a little bit of copper to increase the hardness and enable durable jewellery items to be created.

Can sterling silver be scratched?

Yes, sterling silver can scratch but not that easily. The copper component of sterling silver increases the hardness but sterling silver is still prone to being scratched so it is important to look after your pair of earrings properly.

Why does sterling silver tarnish?

Silver reacts with suplur-containing compounds in the air and produces silver sulphide which is black in colour. This is a natural process that produces tarnish on the silver. It is very easy to remove the black colour by using a jewellery cloth or liquid jewellery cleaner.

What is oxidised sterling silver?

Oxidation of silver is a natural process that occurs slowly over time when silver is exposed to the sulphides in air. It produces a black tarnished layer over the top of the silver. However, if you want your silver to have a more permanent blackened effect, the oxidation process can be sped up by purposefully exposing the silver to sulphides. The black colour on oxidised silver is hard to remove while natural tarnished silver is easy to clean. Some of our earrings contain oxidised silver and will be clearly labelled as such.

Do you sell other jewellery?

At this stage, we are only selling earrings. We are a very small business and have decided to specialise in earrings only.

Order Queries

Do you perform quality checks on each pair?

Yes, we always thoroughly check every pair of earrings we receive from our suppliers. You can be sure that the pair you have been sent is of high quality and will be exactly as the item is shown and described on the product page. We understand it can be difficult to make decisions about purchasing items from an online store so we’re here to make sure you receive a pair of earrings that look as good as the pictures.

Should I clean my earrings before trying on?

Most definitely. While we have a very clean postage and handling process, and we always polish your earrings before sending them to you, you should always clean your earrings before trying them on. It’s very tempting to put the earrings in your ear straight away but we implore you to take the time to disinfect the hook or stud post first. The earrings are being worn in your ears and we really don’t want you to have any chance of an ear infection.

What types of payment methods do you accept?

We accept all types of major payment methods such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay and American Express.

Do you want me to review your product?

We would love you to review our earrings after you receive them or after you have worn them for some time. The reason being for our own feedback as a small business and so we can ensure our customers are happy.

Currently, we prefer Google Reviews. We will send you a Thank You postcard with your order. This has a QR code that will take you to our Google Review page.

When will my order be shipped?

We will send your order within 2 to 4 business days of purchasing. The delivery time will vary depending on your location within Australia. Please review our Shipping Policy for more details.

Can I return my earrings?

Due to health and hygiene restrictions, earrings usually cannot be returned based on change of mind reasons. Please take time to look at the images and specifications that we provide for each pair of earrings so you can make the right choice for yourself. However, if you purchase a pair of earrings with hooks, we can accept returns if you pay for a new pair of hooks. Please review our Refund Policy for more details.

If the earrings are faulty, we will review your individual case and if deemed correct, the earrings can be returned for a full refund or credit. Please review our Refund Policy for more details.

How do I take care of my earrings?

It's quite easy to take care of your earrings properly to ensure you get the most out of them. We have detailed this in our Jewellery Care section. Please take the time to look through this section if you purchase a pair of our earrings. While we can assure you the earrings are made with the utmost quality, it is up to you to clean your earrings and treat them gently.
